10:00 am Every Space They Wander (8 min. 16 mm) - Honorable Mention, experimental film
Jennifer Hardacker (director)
Three short folk tales from India, Jakarta and Ireland tell stories of staying, leaving, and searching, all in the pursuit of happiness. This experimental film visually presents the New York subway scene as a mysterious and fantastical world in which each person is on their quest for happiness.

10:15 am The Window (9 min. 16 mm) - Honorable Mention, Student film

This short film details one afternoon in the life of an elderly man no longer able to care for himself. Caught between accepting his granddaughterıs help and trying to hold on to the memories of his wife and his youth, the man finds temporary escape and joy of sitting at his favorite spot - a window in the sun.

10:20 am White Boy (93 min. 35 mm) - Best Feature Film/Drama
John Marino (director/co-writer)
A young man must choose between what he wants and what he knows is right in this racially-charged story of love, honor, and revenge.

12:30 pm Deadtime (29 min. 35 mm) - Honorable Mention, Student film
James Brett (director)
Part love story, part getaway flick, this interesting student film employs stylish visuals and a distinct comic tone as we follow a teenage couple looking for liberation and a big breakfast.

1:00 pm The Waiting Game (91 min. 35 mm) - Best Feature Film/Comedy
Ken Liotti (writer/director)
This comedic ensemble film chronicles the adventures and misadventures of a group of waiters (and aspiring actors) at a popular New York eatery. Caught in a whirlwind of artistic trauma, comedic insanity and thespian lust, they struggle to keep their delicately balanced lives from coming unglued.

Jeannine and Jay are two-time Academy Award nominees for their work on L.A. Confidential and Pleasantville. A slide show of their work on The Bridges of Madison County and Pleasantville will be presented and a discussion will follow.

4:45 pm The Offering (10 min. 35 mm) - Best Foreign Film
Paul Lee (writer/director)
Without dialogue and music, this Canadian short film centers on the evolution of love and friendship between a Japanese monk and the young novice, from their initial encounter to their final parting. The passing of life in this film is as natural a progression as the passing of the seasons.


5:00 pm The Cowboy & The Ballerina (12 min. 35mm) - Best Experimental Film
Mark Joseph Isham (writer/director)
This lyrical and image-driven film focuses on an American icon as a hero figure and a European ballerina at the end of her career, about to dance her own swan song. Quiet and touching, this film is luminous with delicate grace.

When Stanley, the neighborhood simpleton, makes a bad moral decision, his world spins out of order as he faces the consequence of his actions.

5:30 pm Everyday (29 min. 16mm) - Best Short Film/Drama
Tracy Allen Davey (director/ c0-writer) and Janelle Ramker (producer/c0-writer)
Titled after the famous Buddy Holly song and based on a monologue by A Prairie Home Companion
ıs Garrison Keillor and Gordon Mennenga, this short drama set in 1959 follows three teenage boys who forgo their own bandıs last performance to trek to Clear Lake, IA as a tribute to their fallen rock & roll idols.

7:00 pm Call Me Fishmael (3 min. 35mm) - Best Animated Film
Steven Dovas (animation director)
An animated micro-short film about the epic struggle between the id and the superego, about the precarious balance between folly of circumstance and the condition of being, about Man against the Elements....Okay, mostly itıs about a Giant Monster Fish.

7:10 pm Peep Show (9 min. 35mm) - Best Short Film/Comedy
Charlie Call (director/editor)
A definite favorite among the Hardacre Film Festival Jury, this very funny and tightly edited film follows a woman as she enters a peep show. Instead of a sexually-charged striptease, she is pleasantly surprised as this award-winning comedy comes to a shuddering climax.

7:30 pm The Big One (90 min. 35mm) - Not shown in competition
Michael Moore (writer/director)
Roger & Me director Michael Mooreıs amusing documentary about the down-sizing of America. Moore turns over corporate rocks and watches things squirm in this funny and provocative film. After pouncing on corporate down-sizers around the country, including stops in Cedar Rapids and Des Moines, the film culminates with Mooreıs encounter with the first CEO who ever agreed to meet him personally, Nike boss Phillip Knight. Siskel and Ebert gave this movie Two Thumbs Up! and the Chicago Tribune says Everyone in America should see The Big One!
